Temple ISD District to Receive Temple Marker-Postponed

The Temple Historic Preservation Committee will hold a reception honoring the Temple Independent School District as the latest recipient of a Temple Historic Organizational Marker. The reception will be held on Thursday, March 19th at 2:00 p.m., at the new TISD administration located at 401 Santa Fe Way, Temple Texas.

The first Temple Public School was built in June 13, 1883 known as Temple Academy. Shortly afterwards the city voted to form an independent school district. As the community grew so did school system. Today Temple ISD is a 6A school district with more than 8,700 students excelling in variety of programs with over 200 national merit scholar award winners. Temple’s ISD’s mission is to inspire, motivate, and empower students to reach their maximum potential.

The Temple Historic Marker program was designed to recognize historically significant structures and organizations in the city while encouraging preservation and restoration. For a property or organization to be considered for a historic marker, the property owner must apply with supporting documentation to the Historic Preservation Committee.
